It was a cold wind from the south that night
That carried my feet to you.
You stood beneath a flickering street light
In a coat of cornflower blue.
You know it’s true I would’ve walked right by
If you hadn’t called my name.
Hearing your voice I began to cry,
And opened my mouth to say.

Have you seen my heart, I think I lost it
Along this way last night.
Yes it fell from my sleeve, got caught in the breeze,
Now it’s blown far from my sight.
And this aching pain no it won’t go away
Til I fill this hole inside.
And I need to know why you would give me the skies,
Then tell me it was all just a lie.

I felt weak as you took my hand
And gazed straight into my soul.
My son you seek to understand
The things that time alone holds.
You’ve been told a truth you hated to hear,
But you can piece yourself together again.
